A man walking on I-55 on New Year’s Eve was struck and killed by a passing 18-wheeler.
According to the Louisiana State Police Department, 49-year-old Robert A. Mayeaux of Maurepas was walking in the right lane on Interstate 55 north of LA 3234 in Tangipahoa Parish.
A spokesperson for LSP says, “A 2017 Kenworth 18-wheeler was also northbound in the right lane and impacted Mayeaux, pushing him off of the roadway. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.”
The driver of the Kenworth 18-wheeler was not injured in the crash. Investigators say it is unknown if impairment was a factor in the crash.
