Federal prosecutors today announced that a man has been sentenced to a year-and-a-half behind bars for bringing a gun with 31 bullets in it to Bourbon Street on Mardi Gras.
A news release says U.S. District Judge Greg G. Guidry sentenced 23-year-old Toburren Lindsey, of New Orleans, to 18 months in federal prison.
He plead guilty to "possession of a machinegun."
"According to court records, on February 21, 2023 (Mardi Gras Day), the New Orleans Police Department (“NOPD”) patrolled the 300 Block of Bourbon Street and saw LINDSEY and O’Marion Armstrong walking down Bourbon Street together."
The feds say officers saw a firearm in Lindsey's waistband.
He took of running, but cops caught him.
"A Glock Model 19, nine millimeter semi-automatic handgun was recovered from his person. The loaded firearm contained 30 rounds of ammunition in an attached magazine, as well as one live round in the chamber."
The case was part of Project Safe Neighborhoods.
It is "a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun track violence, and to make our neighborhoods safer for everyone."
