Gunfire overnight on the edge of the French Quarter sent one man to the hospital and another to prison.
"New Orleans Police are investigating a shooting incident which occurred at about 12:11 a.m. today in the 500 block of Esplanade Avenue," Public Information Officer Barry Fletcher said in an email. "Responding officers found an adult male victim reportedly suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest."
He says EMS took the victim to the hospital.
"According to investigators, the victim... was approached by another adult male. An argument ensued. The suspect fired shots at the victim, striking him at least once. The suspect was taken into custody by responding officers."
No word on the victim's condition.
An initial police report says, "The victim was walking when the suspect approached and asked for money."
