Could New Orleans be once again facing the prospect of running out of money before the end of the year?
Mayor Helena Moreno went into more detail about how her administration intends to keep the city from running out of money by then.
The mayor said Plan A, getting permission from state leaders to take out a loan from a private lender, isn't happening. But that wasn't their only plan.
"You have your first option, but then you have ten options behind it," the mayor told WWL's Newell Normand. "Maybe those other nine options aren't fantastic, but at least you've got a backup plan."
Moreno said it means a lot of projects her administration was planning will have to wait.
"To get us through the end of the year, that means we're going to have to delay about $35 million worth of projects," the mayor said. "We're also going to have to tap into our rainy day fund, and that's a bout a $25 million cost."
The mayor said she want to put $25 million back into the rainy day fund once property tax collections start coming in, beginning in early 2027.
