A Metairie man is in the St. Tammany Parish jail on charges he tried to hire someone to murder his business partner.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office says 30-year-old Ahmad Slyyeh, who co-owns a Slidell-area business, met with an individual and attempted to hire this person to kill his business partner. However, the would-be hitman instead notified the sheriff's office. From there, detectives gathered evidence sufficient to charge Slyyeh, according to the sheriff's office.

Slyyeh surrendered to authorities Wednesday night.

"I am very proud of the hard work of our deputies and detectives! They work very hard to keep everyone safe and to solve any and all crimes," said Sheriff Randy Smith. "This particular incident could have ended with someone getting hurt, but instead everyone is safe and the perpetrator is in custody."
