Six Mississippi National Guard soldiers are recovering in a Jackson hospital after a reckless driver caused their convoy to Louisiana crashed.
The crash happened Thursday on I-55 at I-220 split.
The Richland Police Department says the Army National Guard convoy was heading to Louisiana to help in the recovery when a civilian driver cut off the lead vehicle, triggering a five-vehicle crash with the convoy.
The crash happened as the convoy was taking the exit ramp to I-220.
Authorities say the driver slammed on their brakes and caused a ripple effect resulting in the convoy crashing into itself. The driver then fled the scene.
The incident is under investigation.
