A federal judge in New Orleans ruled Wednesday that prosecutors will not be allowed to present evidence about former Mayor LaToya Cantrell's campaign spending in her upcoming corruption trial, according to our partners at WWL-TV.
Cantrell and her former NOPD bodyguard, Jeffrey Vappie, are charged with fraud and obstruction.
U.S. District Judge Wendy Vitter did agree to let prosecutors introduce as evidence a gold NOPD ring Vappie gifted to the mayor, but said prosectors cannot talk about Cantrell using campaign funds to buy personal items.
Cantrell and Vappie are set to go on trial in March 2027.
