Seven Venezuelans in the U.S. on an asylum claim beat two New York Police Department officers in Central Park and WWL's Newell Normand believes it should be an open and shut case.

But they're getting the 'illegal immigrant privilege' that means no bail was set and the arrestees have been allowed to walk free, Normand said.

"We wonder why we're having the challenges we're having trying to employ folks to become policemen," Normand said.

He was also disgusted by the 'How Many Stops' Act that forces police in New York to document the race and other data of everyone they stop.

The bill is meant as an antidote to the old 'stop and frisk' rules. It requires officers to record information about everyone they stop in 'low-level encounters,' ie., witnesses who aren't necessarily suspected of a crime.

Officers also will have to record the reason for the stop and the circumstances that led to stopping any one particular person. And as an added measure, the information would be made public on the police department's website.

"The byproduct of this is there will be no stops," Normand said.
