As the threat from the Delta Variant increases, New Orleans Public School officials announce they are setting measures in place to help persevere their goal of maintaining in-person learning.

“At Nola Public Schools we have revised our COVID guidance around preserving in-person learning,” said NOLA Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Henderson Lewis, Jr.

NOLA Public Schools COO, Tiffany Delcour outlined the changes made to public school COVID guidelines.

Delcour says all students, staff, faculty, and visitors regardless of their vaccination.

“This is a really important change and as we continue to evaluate this pandemic, you can anticipate additional changes to the safety measures we put in place,” said Delcour.

Mobile vaccination sites will also be set up in various schools and Delcour urges people who are not yet vaccinated to take advantage of the opportunity.

Students and staff not vaccinated will have to undergo a CDC-funded COVID test every week.

“With the support of the Department of Health we will have weekly, routine, surveillance testing for all studnets and staff in our schools,” Delcour said.

Delcour also announced a partnership with Louisiana Department of Health that will give financial incentives for students participating in weekly COVID testing.

“Schools participating in this program will also see financial incentives for their participation,” said Delcour. She however, did not clarify how much money students and the school would get for participating in the weekly COVID testing program.
