UPDATE: FEMA has pulled its proposal for the site.

ORIGINAL STORY: FEMA is taking public comment on a proposed temporary trailer park site in Metairie, but the president of Jefferson Parish says there seem to be some misconceptions about it.

Even seven-and-a-half months after Hurricane Ida, many homeowners have not been able to move back in to their houses yet, and many of them are on property where it is not feasible to set up a trailer. So FEMA wants to set up a group site at a vacant lot on Houma Boulevard a few blocks behind East Jefferson Medical Center.

Jefferson Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng says there have been some misunderstanding.

"A lot of the concern is that it's going to be a permanent trailer park. This is obviously temporary, it's Ida related," Sheng told WWL's Tommy Tucker. "This is temporary, and that's the concern of a lot of people, I think word started spreading that this is going to be a trailer park site forever."

Sheng says she has been told the maximum time it would be a trailer site would be a year, and it would be Jefferson parish property owners who live there.
