After Louisiana posted a record daily number of positive coronavirus test results, New Orleans Health Director Dr. Jennifer Avegno said restrictions could be reinstated if the spread of the pandemic isn't brought under control.
Avegno says New Orleans isn't doing as bad as other regions of the state, but there were around 60 new confirmed cases today. She said the goal is to keep that number under 50.
The percentage of tests that are positive this week was 2.2 percent. Dr. Avegno said it was 1.2 percent last week, but still within the goal of remaining under five percent.
Dr. Avegno said for the most part, New Orleanians are doing a good job at avoiding large, maskless gatherings, and people are wearing masks when in public. She said where people are getting tripped up is with the little things.
"Where we're seeing spread right now, the majority of cases, is from people letting their guard down," said Dr. Avegno. "You go to play tennis with a friend, you go out afterwards, you keep the masks off, you sit next to each other, and then one of you comes up positive two days later and the other comes up positive the next day."
