UPDATE 9:40 a.m. Saturday:
The Children's Hospital annual Holiday Parade in downtown New Orleans will roll as scheduled today, parade officials tell WWL.
The second installment of the Children’s Hospital Annual Holiday Parade is set to roll Saturday and will feature many of the elements New Orleanians are accustomed to like walking crews, throws, and bands. But, this parade can boast something no other in the city can: Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade style balloons.
“We will have lots of different groups handling the big holiday themed balloons. We’re so excited to brings something so different and one of a kind to New Orleans,” says Amy Mills, Chief Marketing officer for the Downtown Development District.
Parade organizers are aware of the possible weather conditions and, even though it may in fact rain on their parade, the party will continue.
“We are moving forward with plans to roll at 11 a.m.,” she said.
The fun doesn’t stop after Santa crosses Poydras -- there is a holiday after party planned with treats, crafts, more of Old Saint Nick, and live entertainment.
“Music will be provided by Maggie’s Corner and Trombone Shorty along with members of the Trombone Shorty Academy,” said Mills.
The parade will begin at the corner of Esplanade Avenue and North Peters Street, traveling North Peters to Decatur Street through the French Market toward Jackson Square and Oscar Dunn Park, then make its way back to North Peters, turning right on Canal Street with a U-turn on Royal street, traveling back through Tchoupitoulas Street, and then right on Julia Street, where the parade will end along Camp Street in front of Lafayette Square.
The festivities take place in Lafayette Square immediately following the parade.
