A Clearwood Junior High School student is facing terrorizing charges after St. Tammany Parish authorities say he told a classmate he was going to bring a gun to school and shoot him.
According to St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office Sgt. Suzanne Carboni, the alleged target of the threat notified a school resource officer. According to Sgt. Carboni, the 12-year-old suspect said he would bring the gun to school on Friday and shoot the other student. Sgt. Carboni adds that the victim did not notify the school resource officer of the threat until after Friday's session had begun.
Authorities searched the suspect and found no gun on his person. He was issued a summons and released into his parent's custody
“We will continue to take threats like this very seriously,” St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Randy Smith said. "We will continue to work with our schools and investigate all threats made at our schools or to the students and faculty who attend them. Parents, please talk to your children and explain the seriousness of making comments like this, even in a joking manner.”
It is the second arrest this week in St. Tammany of a junior high school student for threatening to bring a gun to school.
Thursday, deputies arrested a 13-year-old student at Madisonville Junior High and booked him with terrorizing after classmates claimed he said he was going to bring a gun to school, and warned them to stay home.
In that case, detectives said they determined that the teen did not have access to guns at his home, and released him into his parents' custody, with an agreement to appear in court at a later date.
