Tangipahoa Parish voters will return to the polls in April to cast ballots in a judicial race that’s headed to a runoff. Meanwhile, voters on Saturday said “yes” to one tax and “no” to another.
Voters renewed a 4.98-mill property tax to fund mosquito abatement operations in the parish. Voters, however, rejected a plan that would have replaced a 10-mill property tax that funds the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office with a perpetual three-quarter-percent sales tax.
The race for 21st Judicial District Judge and Tangipahoa alderman will be decided in next month’s general election. Jenny Richardson Fore and Jessica Ledet will compete head-to-head in the April runoff. Fore won the primary by 157 votes, edging out Ledet by one percent of the vote. Third-place finisher Rebecca Davis-Lee received 31 percent of the vote.
The Tangipahoa village alderman’s race was decided Saturday. Voters elected Pam Bean and Salvador Pedro Rodriguez to the village council. Bean received 80 votes to take first place, while Rodriguez took 68 votes to win the second open seat on the board of aldermen. A third candidate, Irma Cook, received only 40 votes.
