Threat of storms fails to dampen Mardi Gras spirit

Mardi Gras 2025

Despite the threat of high winds and heavy weather later in the day, Mardi Gras revelers packed the French Quarter to celebrate the last day before Lent.

Bourbon Street was not nearly as packed as it was in 2024. Still, people from near and far, including costumes revelers, law enforcement, and proselytizers, jammed the historic thoroughfare. The section of Bourbon between Bienville and St. Ann saw the highest concentration of revelers, with another large crowd packing the intersection of Bourbon and St. Philip.

Meanwhile, Royal Street was jam packed as people waited for marching krewes to parade down the street. The crowd grew larger until Royal met Esplanade at the border of the French Quarter and the Marigny. There, an impromptu block party broke out. Revelers of all ages and decked out in all sorts of costumes celebrated Mardi Gras—and, in some cases, birthdays, too.
