Easter Sunday was no deterrent to the violent crime that is plaguing New Orleans.
The New Orleans Police Department was kept busy with four armed robberies, four shootings, a stabbing, and a homicide.
Armed Robbery
A woman was robbed at about 11:58 a.m. in the 700 block of Girod Street.
The male suspect approached the victim from behind, grabbed her backpack, and pulled her to the ground.
When the victim turned around, the suspect took the victim’s backpack at gunpoint and fled.
A man and a woman were the victims of an armed robbery near N. Rampart and Frenchman Streets. The suspect attempted to snatch the woman’s purse, but when the victim resisted the suspect pulled out a gun and then fled with the purse.
A man robbed a General Dollar in the 4500 block of Old Gentilly Road. Police say the male suspect approached the cashier and demanded she hands over the cash in the register. The cashier complied and then the suspect fled the scene with the cash.
In the French Quarter, a woman was robbed at gunpoint says police. It happened in the 100 block of Burgundy Street where police say an unknown suspect pointed a gun and then pushed the victim to the ground before grabbing the woman’s property and fleeing the scene.
Aggravated Battery by Shooting
A verbal altercation led to a man and a woman being shot in the 1500 block of North Claiborne Avenue. The victims were taken to the hospital by EMS. Their condition is unknown.
A man was walking in the 1800 block of Orleans Avenue when he heard gunshots and found he had been struck by a bullet. EMS took him to the hospital.
Sunday evening a man arrived at the hospital with several gunshot wounds. The shooting happened near Mardi Gras Blvd. and Copernicus Street. The victim’s condition and identity are unknown at this time.
And a woman was in the 7100 block of Florita Court when she told police she felt a sharp pain in her chest and realized she had been shot. She was taken to the hospital by a private vehicle. Her condition is unknown.
Aggravated Battery by Cutting
An unknown person was cut with a knife after they intervened to help another victim seen being hit by the suspect. The suspect cut the Good Samaritan. Both victims were taken to the hospital by EMS.
Homicide
A man was killed in the 2600 block of Allen Street. Police say the suspect produced a weapon and fired at the victim multiple times. The suspect fled the scene and the victim was transported to a local hospital, where he died.
