If you “need” the TV on to fall asleep, you may be working against yourself.

“We tend to sleep when it’s quiet. If you got some episode where Ross and Rachel are fighting and getting back together again, and they’re on a break and they’re back together…a lot of people will tell me that I like to pick a Friends episode where I’m not really paying attention to it, but you do.”

On WWL First News with Tommy Tucker, Dr. Chris Winter shared some of what he’s discovered as a sleep researcher and neurologist.  On the topic of having the TV or maybe the radio as white noise to help you settle into sleep, Dr. Winter urged people to reconsider.

“In my first book, the Sleep Solution, I talk about a study that really interestingly put sleeping people into scanners and showed that when there was language happening the brain was attending to it.  So, if you need to drown out traffic noise where you live I think a little noise machine works better, but getting electronics and television out of the bedroom, you will sleep better,” Dr. Winter told Tommy.
