Police in New Orleans announce they have arrested 33-year-old Stephanie N. Kyzar who was caught on surveillance video carjacking an SUV that had two children inside.
The carjacking happened Wednesday afternoon at a gas station in the 7900 block of Chef Menteur Highway.
The video shows the children leaping out of the back door of the SUV as Kyzar allegedly gets in the driver seat and drives away, running over the leg of one of the fleeing children. The child’s leg was bruised and swollen but not broken authorities say.
An NOPD report says, “At about 4:14 p.m. on June 3, Seventh District officers responded to a call of a reported unknown white female fitting the description of the carjacking suspect. The subject, later identified as Kyzar, was located at the intersection of Chef Menteur Highway and Michoud Boulevard. Through further investigation, detectives positively identified Kyzar as the perpetrator and arrested her. Additionally, Kyzar informed detectives as to the location of the stolen vehicle which was later recovered.”
Kyzar was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for simple robbery, aggravated battery, and violation of parole.
