Congresswoman Maxine Waters made an unusual detour Sunday when she urgently pulled her car over to make sure L.A. County Sheriff's officers were following all the correct procedures as they detained a Black man.

The representative was driving through her 43rd District when she saw an L.A. County Sheriff patrol car. She told a group of people who were recording the incident on their cell phones that the officers weren't happy with where she parked and she was in danger of getting a ticket. Waters didn't seem to mind, according to TMZ.

Waters is beloved in her community and is an outspoken advocate and activist in the Black Lives Matter movement.

She's been a staunch critic of President Donald Trump, lambasting the president over his handling of the coronavirus outbreak, calling him a "failure" and pushing him to use his authority under the Defense Production Act to procure more personal protective equipment for frontline workers.

In a series of tweets, Waters, a frequent and vocal critic of Mr. Trump's, said the president "mishandled" the coronavirus pandemic and should "stop congratulating" himself.

"You're not knowledgeable & you don't know more than experts & generals. Your ignorance & incompetence are appalling & you continue to demonstrate that every time you open your mouth!" she said.
