What fallout, if any, could Louisiana's Republican Senators face following their support of President Trump?

We went to Political Analyst Ed Chervenak for answers.

He says since President Trump won Louisiana handily, it’s unlikely they’ll face any blowback for their support of the President.

“It’s hard to tell, certainly John Kennedy has been a big booster of the President,” Chervenak says.  “Bill Cassidy less so, but I suspect that in the end, they will not vote to convict, Donald Trump did win the state with 58% of the vote.”

As for the impeachment, another question remains: What will likely happen when the Senate gets the indictment paperwork for the impeachment trial?

“Mitch McConnell is still in charge, he’s the Senate Majority Leader, he has said he will not bring the Senate back until the 19th which is the day before the inauguration,” Chervenak says.  “After that Democrat Chuck Schumer will be Senate Majority Leader and it will be up to him in terms of moving forward with a trial.”

According the Chervenak Washington Democrats will likely exact any retribution on Kennedy, since he is up for re-election next year.

“If they’re picking on anybody it will likely be John Kennedy—not Bill Cassidy, he refused to vote for the objections.  It will Kennedy who will be accused as part of the ‘sedition caucus.’”

But what could actually happen to Kennedy?  Chervenak says don’t expect much.

“Still the Senate has always been kind of a collegial body,” Chervenak points out.  “We’ll have to wait and see whether it’s a matter of censure or investigations, anyway that’s about it.”

For now, it’s anybody’s guess on whether there is any reaction.
