WAUKESHA, WIS. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - It was a year ago today that Darrell Brooks killed six people and injured dozens of people in the Waukesha Christmas Parade. The city is holding a remembrance ceremony to pay tribute.

Mayor Shawn Reilly is hoping to turn the city blue, lighting up parts of Waukesha in the color to show unity and support for all those killed or injured a year ago.  The ceremony will be right near the parade start and finish, in Cutler Park and will have a limited number of free blue lights for residents to install in their homes or businesses.

Reilly is slated to speak at the event, as well as other city leaders and Governor Tony Evers.  It will start at 4:39 p.m., the time Darrell Brooks entered the parade route.

Last week a judge sentenced Darrell Brooks to life in prison for his deadly drive through the parade route.

The ceremony will be live-streamed and there will be counselors on hand.
