CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - There was a fire overnight at Lincoln Park Zoo.
The Chicago Fire Department said the fire happened outside Café Brauer, which is not close to any big animal habitats.
Flames had been shooting from some propane tanks in a shed outside the building, according to fire spokesman Larry Langford.
“No animals were involved. It wasn’t near. It was just the storage shed outside the café,” Langford said.
He said a civilian was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center and was being questioned by police about how the fire started.
“He’s not connected with the zoo, not an employee or anything like that,” Langford noted.
Investigators believe the fire was started by someone but that it was not necessarily arson.
A firefighter suffered minor injuries and was taken to Rush University Medical Center for treatment.
