CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Today morning’s snow added a festive touch to the start of the busy holiday travel season.

Between today and Jan. 2, airlines expect 3.6 million people to fly through O’Hare and Midway. That appears to be up about 7.6 percent over last year.

“The busiest day is projected to be Monday, Dec. 23, with about 240,000 passengers traveling through O’Hare on that day alone,” said Chicago Department of Aviation spokeswoman Karen Pride.

In case it feels more crowded, the City says O'Hare will see an increase of 7.8 percent over last year.  The busiest day at Midway is projected to be Sunday, Dec. 29, with more than 51,000 people taking off or landing.

Midway’s numbers for the whole two week period are on par with last year.

While we’re going to see almost twice as many passengers come through compared to Thanksgiving, that peak day at O’Hare is lower than the Sunday after that holiday.
