CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - It appears there was a measles outbreak at a Chicago police station, but the city says everything is under control there now.
There was a sign outside the 25th District police station warning that the building had been contaminated by a measles outbreak. Measles is one of the world's most contagious diseases.
Epidemiologist Dr. Katrine Wallace of the University of Illinois-Chicago talked to CBS-2.
"It's helpful to know, I guess, that symptoms, after you're exposed to measles, you have about a 10-14 day window of incubation before symptoms can appear…That's a good thing to let the public know because it won't show up immediately after exposure," Wallace said.
The City says it is consulting with County and community health partners on the health of migrants brought to Chicago. Some have been staying at police stations.
The City also says it's very unlikely someone will contract measles by being inside the 25th District police station because most Chicagoans were vaccinated against measles as children.
