(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- This week's Difference Maker is an organization that helps women escape traumatic and dangerous lifestyles that they're often forced into.
Naomi's House opened its doors in 2012 with the mission of helping women who are victims of sexual exploitation or trafficking.
“This is happening in every community,” says Simone Halpin, co-founder and executive director. “As long as there is a demand for sex, women will be exploited and sold.”
She says women who want out of a life of exploitation don’t know about the resources that can help them get away.
Naomi's House offers free housing, counseling, therapy, job training, placement and much more – at no cost to the women.
"Gaby" is one of the women they helped, and she shares her memory of what it was like to come to Naomi's House, in a video on the organization's website.
“I just felt this overwhelming feeling of just like when someone wraps their arms around you and you feel comforted,” she says.
Halpin says seeing Gaby and other women break free is why Naomi's House is committed to their mission.
“They've seen the worst in humanity and they've overcome it,” she says.
“I've witnessed women find their voice, find their future, their purpose and they have to strength to go after it and to believe in themselves and break generations’ curses.”
