(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Village of Dixmoor’s notorious water issues are expected to be a thing of the past when new water lines are installed soon.
There is a $2.5 million fix coming, with the installation of 3,700 feet of 12-inch main. The material will replace century-old 6- and 8-inch lines that have frequently broken in recent years.
The cost is being shared between the village, the county and the federal government.
The Army Corps of Engineers says there will be better flow and better fire protection when the project is completed.
In recent years, water main breaks and burned-out pumps have led to the closure of schools and businesses, and residents have had to go the village hall to get bottled water.
