CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The Chicago Blackhawks will host next year’s Winter Classic, according to multiple reports.

The league is expected to announce Wednesday that the Blackhawks will battle the St. Louis Blues outdoors at Wrigley Field on New Year’s Day 2025.

It will be the second time the event took place at the Friendly Confines and fifth occasion the franchise has participated in the Winter Classic.

For the franchise’s 18-year-old  superstar Connor Bedard this will be his first taste of the NHL’s premier regular season event.

Fifteen years ago, Jan. 1, 2009, the then and upcoming squad led by Patrick Kane and Jonthan Toews squared off with the established Detroit Red Wings inside the venerable ballpark.

The Blackhawks would later play in three more Winter Classics- 2015- vs. the Capitals at Nationals Park in Washington D.C., 2017- vs. the Blues, at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, 2019- vs. the Bruins at Notre Dame Stadium in Indiana.
