CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- State lawmakers propose boundaries in Chicago to be used in future school board elections.

Heading into the weekend, Illinois House and Senate Democrats released a proposed map, carving out 20 board of education districts based on community input that will be used to vote in board members beginning with the November 2024 election in which 10 board members will be elected to join 10 appointed by Brandon Johnson.

Johnson will also appoint a board president. Additional input on the proposed map will be considered, leading up to a deadline of July 1.

In November of 2026, voters will chose the first fully-elected board, one from each of 20 districts and a president elected at large.
