CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — People have been posting lately about their encounters with aggressive Canadian geese.

The geese are typically in pairs, explains Vid Rapsys, who runs the Naperville office of Geese Police Inc.

“These pairs have picked out where they’re going to build a nest,” he said Wednesday. “The male is going to take a guard stance.”

His company uses Border Collies to humanely chase off the geese. To the birds, the dogs look and act and like predators.

“Oftentimes the geese willl fly away, almost immediately. Or, they’ll retreat to the water. My dogs are trained to even go in the water.”

He’ll keep coming back until the geese move on.

Canadian geese enjoy some protections under state and federal law. It should be noted you need a permit to render geese eggs un-hatchable, a process known as depredation.
