CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago Heights Mayor David Gonzalez says a new 25-year deal between suburban neighbors will culminate in 100 percent water delivery by mid-September or early October.

The City of Chicago Heights will be delivering Lake Michigan water to the Villages of Homewood and Flossmoor "at favorable and predictable rates", according a news release.

Chicago Heights gets the Lake Michigan water from Hammond and Gonzalez said getting the water is just one step for these suburbs.

"There's still some towns here in the south suburbs that are still on well water," he told WBBM.

"That would be a big improvement for them to get to like Michigan water, but also the ones that are currently on Lake Michigan water getting it from Chicago. Hammond was able to offer a better price."

Other measures are always in mind.

"We're very hopeful that we can get federal grants and state grants to update the infrastructure that actually brings this water to the residents' homes," said Gonzalez.
