(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – The ambulance fleet of a local children’s hospital is getting a big boost.
Lurie Children’s Hospital this week showed off two brand-new, high-tech ambulances built by MedEx Ambulance Services in Skokie.
Dr. Robert Newmyer, Medical Director of the hospital’s Transport Team, said the new additions are the largest and most complex yet.
“Our team can now stand up in the ambulance and still be secured if there’s a collision or sudden change in acceleration. You can imagine how that is helpful in the back of an ambulance where you need to be able to reach over and help with IV or an airway, for example.”
Along with better care, Safety Coordinator Sheila Nally said the new Ford E-450’s give young patients and their families a bit more comfort and peace of mind.
“The inside of our ambulances are decorated with stickers and kid-friendly things. We also have a DVD player in there. We almost instantly have patients calm down when they get into our ambulance,” Nally said.
