(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The City of Chicago is looking for a Christmas tree to put in Millennium Park this holiday season and needs help.

The Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events is now accepting nominations for this year’s tree. Not just any tree. There are a few requirements:

--The city prefers a Norway spruce or a fir tree. Pine trees are not eligible because they’re not sturdy enough.

--The tree must be 45 feet or taller, and they must be within 50 miles of downtown Chicago.

Submissions are being taken via email at dcase@cityofchicago.org. Pictures of the tree and contact information are requested.

People nominating their tree should offer “a brief description of why the tree should be Chicago’s official Christmas Tree including any background information on the tree that makes it special,” officials said.

Deadline is Oct. 12. If all goes well, city officials will hold the usual tree-lighting ceremony on Nov. 17.
