(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The family of a 22-year-old bicyclist killed last May in a hit-and-run on the Northwest Side is suing the driver and his employer, as well as the City of Chicago and Metra.
Cyclist Nick Parlingayan was killed near an underpass in the 3800 block of North Milwaukee when he was hit and dragged by a vehicle. The driver left the scene but later turned himself in.
Parlingayan's family, through their attorney Brian Salvi, is suing the driver and his employer and the City of Chicago and Metra because they say Metra construction forced vehicles into the bike lane. The wrongful death lawsuit seeks damages.
"When you squeeze cyclists and vehicles together like this without letting them know it's about to happen, you're creating a scenario that is inevitably going to cause a problem,” Salvi said.
Metra declined to comment.
A spokesperson for the Chicago Law Department says they haven't been served with the complaint.
