CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A contractor has died after an apparent accident Thursday morning at a Chicago Water Department pumping station.

The Chicago Police Department said the 63-year-old man suffered fatal injuries a little after 9 a.m. while working at the West Side’s Central Park Pumping Station, located in the 3500 block of W. Fillmore.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the Chicago Fire Department, the man was not a City employee, and it appears that he was electrocuted.

An autopsy is scheduled, police said.

Earlier Thursday, in an unrelated incident, a man was found dead near another Chicago water treatment facility. Officers discovered the victim outside the Eugene Sawyer water purification plant near Rainbow Beach. He had sustained trauma to the head, police said.

Area Two detectives are investigating the incident as a homicide.

No one is in custody.
