EVANSTON, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- There's a variety of reactions after Evanston leaders narrowly approved a controversial Ryan Field rebuild at Northwestern University.
Mayor Daniel Biss who cast the deciding vote on Monday and broke the four-to-four tie, calls the move to allow Northwestern to rebuild and rezone Ryan field for larger events a "win-win".
"It's going to be a limited number of six concerts a year in that stadium... will be put in place guardrails to make sure that the impact on the neighborhood is minimal while people are going to be coming into Evanston and spending money and supporting our local businesses," he added.
Parielle Davis, vice president of the Most Livable Cities Association strongly disagrees.
"As a community, we've been very, very outspoken against the zoning changes," she said.
"Honestly, I think a lot of people just couldn't believe like how betrayed we were."
Biss said he's well aware not all Evanston residents are in favor of the $800 million project.
"I respect that some people are furious and don't agree with what happened, but know that your voice was heard."
"If he thinks that a billion dollar organization is the community, then they were heard. I agree," Davis said in response.
"If he means the actual residents, I completely disagree."
She also said her group plans to continue fighting the plans moving forward.
