CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- For the first time in 11 months, there will be high school students walking the halls and sitting in classrooms in the Chicago Public School system.
Monday is like the first day of school for about 26,000 high school students in the district.
While majority of high school students have opted to continue remote learning, those who will be learning in-person will do so two days a week. That is to make sure there’s enough physical distancing among students.
Conversely, in 36 CPS high schools, the number of students who’ve opted for in-person learning is low enough that those students will be able to attend classes four days a week. These schools are mostly on the South and West Sides.
Only four schools have more than half their students expected back. All four are selective enrollment schools, including Whitney Young, Lane Tech, Jones College Prep, and Taft. Each has more than a 1,000 students returning.
