COOK COUNTY, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The deadline is almost here to apply for flood-assistance from the federal government if you were impacted by this summer’s flooding in Cook County.

Federal help is available for people who suffered losses due to flooding between June 29 -July 2 in Cook County. The FEMA deadline to apply for help is October 16.

Even if you already reported damage to another agency or organization, you still need to apply with FEMA if you want to be eligible for federal grants or long- term low interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Federal help may be possible for non- citizens under certain circumstances, but regardless of citizenship status, everyone is eligible for crisis counseling assistance, disaster legal services, and disaster supplemental nutrition help.

Applications for assistance can be submitted here or applicants can call the FEMA helpline at 800-621-3362.
