CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Chicago Police released images of a truck that they said was involved in a deadly hit-and-run Monday afternoon on the Northwest Side.
Three security camera photos show a dark colored, two tone Ford pickup truck that police said hit a 15-month-old boy and kept on going. Hermes Rios-Cardona had just lunch with his family at "Ruby's Fast Food," on Pulaski and Wilson in Albany Park, when his parents were trying to buckle him into a car seat. Before he was secure, the boy escaped and walked into traffic where he was hit by the pickup truck heading north on Pulaski.
"My heart is breaking," said Maureen Devine to CBS-2.
Devine, who lives a block away from the restaurant, said she came to the scene to light a candle and say a prayer.
"It's so close to the neighborhood. I'm a mother myself and this is just such a traumatic thing that I feel like I had to do something," Devine said.
Chicago police continue to search for the driver of that pickup truck and ask anyone with information to call the Major Accident Investigation Unit (312-745-4521) Anonymous tips can also be submitted to cpdtip.com.
