(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A new business aims to let women of a certain age enjoy the club scene – without the late-night hours or men.
“A roving dance party that starts at 6 p.m. and ends at 10 p.m., so you can get a good night's sleep,” Earlybirds Club Co-founder Laura Baginski explained the dance party’s concept.
Baginski came up with the idea after lamenting that she didn’t go dancing anymore because she had too many responsibilities to stay up really late.
The mom from Old Irving Park took the idea last fall to her friend Susie Lee.
“She has great ideas, and she’s a doer. She does not like to waste time. She has stage 4 breast cancer and she just lives every day to the fullest.”
The pair met at Prospect High School in the early 90s - the club’s music is from that decade as well as the 80s.
“We play nostalgic music, music they know and can scream the lyrics at the top of their lungs – which they do.”
Since starting, they’ve organized six parties at various bars for women, transwomen and non-binary folks.
Baginski says the dress code is sparkly or comfy – with guests knowing hours on the dance floor in heels can be tough the next day.
Earlybirds is heading to Durty Nellie’s in Palatine for its first suburban party on Sept. 7 from 6 - 10 p.m. Tickets are on sale for $35.
Baginski and Lee have booked a few parties in New York and LA with an eye towards expansion.
