CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The head of the city union that was the first to back Mayor Lightfoot for re-election has been voted out by its members.

Pat Cleary has been voted to replace Jim Tracy as president of the Chicago Firefighters Union, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Tracy had promised to win a new contract for firefighters, but they’ve been without one for nearly two years. Other issues that may have contributed to Tracy’s defeat was Mayor Lightfoot’s requirement that city workers get COVID vaccinations or risk losing their jobs and mix ups over a lieutenant's promotion exam.

New Union President Pat Cleary has been the union’s vice president for a dozen years.
