CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Federal agents have seized an illegal shipment of devices used in the “dabbing” of concentrated cannabis.
Officials with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection say they intercepted 10,000 “quartz banger nails” from Hong Kong late this month. The devices, also known as dabbers, are used as part of a process to vaporize marijuana concentrate.
The illegal shipment, to a Glendale Heights address, was valued at $169,000.
“This was a major seizure by our officers and is a testament to their dedication in identifying goods that violate U.S. laws or illicit products that can be potentially harmful,” Shane Campbell, Area Port Director – Chicago, said in a news release.
Dabbing highly concentrated cannabis is legal in some states, but a number of medical authorities consider it dangerous because of the higher THC level the consumer inhales. Some consider the process, which involves the use of a torch, to be potentially dangerous.
