CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- FABTECH, North America's largest metal forming, fabrication, welding, and finishing event will be the first large-scale trade show hosted at McCormick Place since the start of the pandemic.
The event was canceled last year due to COVID-19, but with the City of Chicago now fully reopened, organizers expect a full rebound.
"The last FABTECH event, occurring in November of 2019 here at McCormick Place, attracted over 48,000 attendees. The 2021 expo is once again expected to have a fantastic turnout," said Larita Clark, CEO at Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority, which owns McCormick Place.
The first FABTECH was held at McCormick Place in 1997 and has grown to be one of the 10 largest trade shows in the United States.
"We are genuinely thrilled to be able to return to in-person events where buyers and sellers can meet in-person to help advance commerce and to help drive our economy," added Steve Prahalis, CEO of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.
The trade show is expected to bring a roughly $73 million boost to Chicago's economy.
FABTECH 2021 runs Sept. 13-16.
