CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The President of the Chicago Fraternal Order of Police is furious over the handling of the Dexter Reed case by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability.

“The sad reality is this is yet another attempt by COPA and, specifically,  its Chief Administrator Andrea Kersten of dividing the community against the police department,” said FOP President John Catanzara in a video shot in front of the Police Memorial at FOP headquarters.

He said Kersten improperly gave briefings about the case to what he called “police-hating aldermen” and activist Ja’Mal Green.

“There’s only one person that could be responsible for that information because we know it wasn’t the department, and we certainly know it wasn’t the State’s Attorney’s Office,” Catanzara said. “That only leaves the corrupt Andrea Kersten, and I’m calling on the mayor and the community commission to call for her recognition or fire her immediately.”

Catanzara said there was absolutely nothing wrong with the response of the officers shooting someone who shot one of their own.

They “responded heroically,” he said.
