Police in northwest suburban Niles are looking for a woman who stole goose eggs.
Allison Cole, the Animal Control Officer for the Niles Police Department, set up a camera to monitor a goose nest along the side of a building near Golf Mill Mall after the adult geese disappeared, and she tells WBBM that camera caught a woman taking goose eggs from the nest in broad daylight.
"It's just speculation on what happened to the adults, I don't know if she (the woman) has anything to do with that but it is illegal to mess with a goose nest (or) their eggs."
It's mating season for geese and Officer Cole says "it would take something very significant for geese to leave the nest, something extremely threatening to them. But then, you know, the second part is someone coming up and taking eggs out of the nest. I called several local wildlife rehabbers in the area, none of them were aware, or gave instruction to anyone recently to remove eggs from a nest at that location."
