HIGHLAND PARK (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Small Business Administration (SBA) has temporarily opened an assistance center in Highland Park to help business owners cover financial losses related to the Fourth of July parade shooting.
Liliana Tschanett, with the SBA, said the Business Recovery Center will help Highland Park business owners apply for low-interest loans. Tschanett said there will be an emphasis on helping shop owners whose business closed after the shooting.
“It could be to pay payroll that was lost due to closing the business, any accounts payable, any bills resulting from this disaster and the loss of business,” Tschanett said. “What they’re not intended to do is replace the sales and the profits of the business.”
Tschanett said the office was opened to make it easier for businesses to apply for the loans, especially those who are challenged by applying for the loans online.
“Some people, you know, are not so computer savvy,” Tschanett said. “They don’t know what documents they need, so throughout the long process online they get discouraged.”
The office will be open every day except Sundays through August 11th at the First Bank of Highland Park on First Street.
