CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) --Memorial Day Parade festivities brought hundreds of people to the Loop.

Chicago's Wreath Laying Ceremony Saturday morning honored fallen heroes and Gold Star family members, who lost a loved one in the United States Armed Forces to combat operations or while on active duty.

Emelita Sequeira was among the Gold Star Family members. Her nephew Sergeant Denis Kisseloff died in Afghanistan in 2010. She was thankful to have the opportunity "to celebrate him and the rest of the fallen soldiers."

Brooke English said she thought the Memorial Day Parade would be a great way to spend her family's "staycation" in the Loop this weekend.

Like Sequeira, she said the parade was also an opportunity to honor a family member who died while serving.

"My husband's father served in World War II, so we're down here just in memory of him and taking a moment to think about how fortunate we are."

English's daughter Emma said some of the best parts of the parade included live instruments and "the dragons...they all move up and do cool things."
