Illinois is following the leads of New York and California, after state lawmakers passed a bill that would require AI developers to create and publish a transparency framework.
It would explain how the company address things like industry standards, risk factors and safety protocols.
The bill also mandates third-party auditors to ensure compliance with the framework. Legislators say the bill aims to further a national standard they say is lacking at the federal level.
The bill passed unanimously in the House Wednesday. It now heads to Governor Pritzker's desk.
