CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Mayor Brandon Johnson has named his picks for the Chicago Board of Education and elevated Sean Harden to be the new president.

Harden worked for CPS under Ron Huberman about a dozen years ago and was sworn in last week.

Four members already appointed by the mayor are staying, two are leaving.

Johnson named Ed Bannon, a LSC member who lost a challenge for 38th ward alderman, community activist Norma Rios-Sierra, immigrants rights activist Pastor Emma Lozano and two people who ran for the board with the CTU endorsement and lost last month. They are former teachers Karen Zaccor and Anusha Thotakura.

Mayor Johnson called his choices “people who love and believe in public education”.

His final pick is still being vetted ahead of Monday’s deadline.
