(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Illinois’ congressional delegation is asking President Joe Biden for help with cleanup after storms blew through our area over a month ago.
A letter signed by Senators Durbin and Duckworth along with the state’s 17 members of Congress, asks FEMA to activate programs that offer help with temporary housing and repairs and replacement for storm damage.
"Governor Pritzker has indicated that this incident is of such severity and magnitude that an effective response is beyond the capabilities of the State and local governments," the lawmakers wrote.
The lawmakers are also requesting low-interest disaster loans for Cook County and other residents following flooding and damage from storms between June 29- July 2.
Illinois has had 125 tornadoes so far this year - the most in the country, according to the National Weather Service.
