Lion Electric announced after disappointing sales it’s laying off almost one-third of its employees. We don’t know how many of the 300 job cuts will be in Joliet, where it makes electric school buses.
The Canadian-based company’s only U.S. factory celebrated its official opening a year ago at ribbon-cutting with Gov. Pritzker and promises of 1,400 jobs coming to the site. This is the third set of layoffs since then.
CEO and Founder Marc Bedard said in a statement announcing a massive decline in revenues and vehicle production that “Transition to electric is taking longer than initially expected, but transportation electrification is here to stay.”
